Kathmandu, Dec 12: The Kathmandu District Court has ordered the release of medical businessman Durga Prasai on a bail of Rs 40,000. He was charged with cybercrime, and the case was filed against him on Wednesday.
The court, presided over by Judge Bishnu Prasad Awasthi, issued the release order.
According to a court official, the case was registered under the Electronic Transactions Act, 2063 BS, on Wednesday. The law stipulates a punishment of up to 5 years in prison for such offenses. However, as Prasai had previously faced similar charges, a sentence of 7.5 years, including a previous 2.5-year sentence, was requested.
Prasai alleged that Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has invested millions of rupees in Cambodia’s telecom sector. However, it was not proved and Prasai himself realized that the documents were false. He shared and posted the ‘fake’ documents in social media and distributed these documents to media person organizing a press conference.
After his claim, Nepal Police launched an investigation over the claim, and arrested Prasain on charges of cyber crime.
