DPM Pokharel embarks on visit to Kalapani area

Darchula: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence, Ishwor Pokharel has left for Kalapani area in connection with inspecting the border in the remote north-west part of the country.

Kalapani is situated in Byas rural municipality of Darchula district bordering China to the north and India to the west. DPM Pokharel embarked towards Kalapani by a Nepal Army helicopter today.

Accompanying him in the border inspection mission is a ten-member team comprising the House of Representatives member Ganesh Singh Thagunna, Deputy Speaker of Sudur Paschim State Assembly, Nirmala Joshi Badal, State Assembly member Man Bahadur Dhami, Golbu Singh Bohra and security officials, Chief District Officer of Darchula, Yadunath Poudel.

Nepal has been expressing its objection after India included the Nepali territories of Kalapani9, Lipulek and Limpiyadhura in its political map.

DPM and the Defence Minister has arrived here to inaugurate the Sudur Paschim Tourism and Trade Fair and the Darchula Festival organised by Darchula Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

He is also scheduled to inspect the Durgadal Company of Nepal Army based in Darchula.

Recently, India published a controversial map showing Kalapani and adjoining area inside Indian territory. The Nepal government had protested against the map, and wrote Delhi of dissatisfaction.
