Earthquake in Western Nepal: 37 dead in Jajarkot, 5 in Rukum, hundreds injured



Jajarkot, Nov 4: The death toll in last night’s earthquake in Jajarkot alone has reached 37. Hundreds of others are suspected to have been injured in the quake, said Chief District Officer Suresh Sunar.

The deceased include 27 women and 10 men. The earthquake has severely hit Bheri, Nalgad, Kushe, Barekot and Chedagad in the district. All the security forces in the district have been mobilized in the search and rescue work, said CDO Sunar.

Among the dead also includes Deputy Mayor of Nalgad Municipality Sarita Singh, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police of Jajarkot Santosh Rokka.

Five persons killed in earthquake in Rukum

Likewise, five people have died and 10 others were injured in the earthquake that occurred last night in Sani Bheri Rural Municipality of Rukum West.

Among those killed in the earthquake with epicentre in Ramidada of Jajarkot are 12-year-old Manisha Pariyar, of Ward No. 2 Pariyar Tole, 31-year-old Dhanavir Pun of Ward No. 1 Chinabagar, 28-year-old Chumrima Pun of the same ward, eight-year-old Yamaraj Pun and two-year-old Sitam Pun, according to Police Inspector Dharmendra Khadka, information officer of District Police Office Rukum West office.

Acting Chief Administrative Officer of Chaurjahari Municipality Sher Prasad Dhakal said that those injured in the earthquake in the Municipality are being rescued and there are no human casualties.

Athabiscot municipality of the district is reported to have suffered huge human casualty, but police have said that the number of people who have died has not been confirmed yet.

An earthquake measuring 6.4 in the Richter scale occurred at 11:47 pm on Friday, with Ramidanda of Jajarkot as the epicenter.
