Education Minister adamant on ending party politics in education

Kathmandu, June 19: Minister for Education, Science and Technology Sumana Shrestha has reiterated that she will not reverse from the stance of making the education sector free from party politics.

At a news conference organized at the Ministry to share major milestones of her 100 days in office, Minister Shrestha defended her move saying that political interference in education would have an adverse effect on education.

She shared that meritocracy was made a basis for making appointments at the universities and added that as many as 825 teachers relinquished their party membership after the minister’s directive.

Minister Shrestha stated that complaints against 45 teachers were lodged at the ministry and clarifications were sought from 41 teachers while four others got clean chit. Likewise, she appealed to all to extend the best possible support for quality education.

“The work has been started with the same aspirations since I took the responsibility. The results have started appearing gradually. The teachers too have started quitting their political membership by realizing our purpose. I am committed to implementing the decision till the last,” she added.
