Kathmandu, June 7: The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has made public the report of the high level national education commission, 2018.
The Ministry made it public on its website on Friday.
Releasing the report, Education Minister, Sumana Shrestha, viewed the positive and relevant issues in the document would be implemented, and revisions made accordingly.
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ had handed over the report to Minister Shrestha on May 14.
A 24-member commission was formed under chairmanship of then Education Minister Giriraj Mani Pokhrel during the KP Sharma Oli-led government. Decision for the formation of the commission was made on July 26, 2018.
The commission had submitted the report to then Prime Minister Oli on January 15, 2019.
The members of the commission had been expressing severe concern over not making public the commission report for long.
The report has suggested to make the school education system more robust, free, and skill-oriented. Likewise, the report also recommended to convert all private education institutions to non-profitable social institution. It has recommended to form a Teaching Council to manage and issue teaching license and teacher’s evaluation, appoint thematic teachers in a ratio of students within five years, establish Integrated Education Board to manage schools as madrasa, Gumba, Gurukul etc, arrange for the credit transfer system in universities, among others.
