TAPLEJUNG: Eight houses have been washed away by landslides in Taplejung. The landslides were triggered by continuous rainfall since the past few days.
Two houses in Mamankhe village and one house in Khewang village of Ward No. 7 of Sirijanga Rural Municipality-6 have been washed away by the landslide, according to the District Disaster Management Committee, Taplejung.
Likewise, 35 families have been displaced. The displaced families are now taking shelter in a school, said Chitra Mabo, vice-chair of Sirijanga rural municipality.
Similarly, three houses in Mikwakhola rural municipality have been washed away by the landslide, said Chief District Officer Mahesh Kumar Pokharel.
Another two houses in Khejinem village of Faktanglung Municipality-2 have been washed away by the landslide. Thirty families have been displaced, said Faktanglung Rural Municipality Chair Rajan Limbu.
Many other human settlements in the direct are reportedly at risk due to continuous rains. The Disaster Management Committee has stated that the road from the district headquarters to the village centers have been blocked causing problems in transportation.
Meanwhile, the District Administration Office, Taplejung, has requested the residents to stay alert and shift to safe places to avoid the disaster.
