Election Commission announces schedule for HoR election

Kathmandu, Nov 17: The Election Commission (EC) has announced the schedule for the House of Representatives (HoR) elections slated for March 5, 2026.

Following a meeting held on Sunday, the EC published the detailed timetable for both the First-Past-the-Post (FPTP) and Proportional Representation (PR) electoral systems on its official web portal. The notice has also been published in the Nepal Gazette.

Under the FPTP system, nominations will take place on January 20, 2026, from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm at the Office of the Returning Officer. The preliminary list of candidates will be made public on the same day between 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm.

The final list of FPTP candidates will be published on January 23, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm, followed by the distribution of election symbols between 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm.

For the proportional electoral system, the election programme begins on December 6. Political parties intending to participate must submit their applications between 10:00 am on December 7 and 4:00 pm on December 9.

Parties must submit their closed lists of PR candidates on December 28 and 29.

The final list of PR candidates will be published on February 3, 2026, between 10:00 am and 5:00 pm, according to the EC.

As per the approved election schedule, voting will be conducted at polling centers across the country on March 5, from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. #nepal #election
