Election Commission arranges ballot paper for FPTP and PR elections



Kathmandu: The Election Commission (EC) has arranged a ballot paper with red election symbol on white background for the first-past-the-post (FPTP) election system to choose the House of Representatives and Province Assembly members in the upcoming elections.

Likewise, the EC has arranged a ballot paper with white background and election symbol on black colour for proportional representation (PR) election system to choose the HoR and province assembly members.

Under the FPTP, there would be a ballot paper having election symbols of the candidates or political parties who are in election race in each electoral constituency.

Likewise, there would be a ballot paper with 47 election symbols for HoR under the PR election system.

According to the EC, only 47 parties out of 68 applicants are eligible to participate in the HoR elections under the PR election system.

As informed, there would be varying numbers of election symbols in ballot papers as per the province under the PR election system towards the province assembly election.

EC completes printing of 70 million ballot papers

The Election Commission (EC) has completed the printing of around 70 million ballot papers for the elections to the House of Representatives and the Province Assembly.

Around 80 million ballot papers are required for the purpose of voting for the twin elections taking place on coming November 20 simultaneously.

As the EC said, now just 11 million papers are to let to be printed. The printing of ballots towards the proportional electoral system has been completed while towards the first-past-the-post system, 28.68 million ballots papers have been printed.

Of the ballot papers that have been printed for the FPTP, 12.95 million are the Province Assembly and 1 4.63 million are meant for the federal election.

The EC continues the transport of ballots along with its printing. The shipping of PR ballots to all 77 districts except Manang and Mustang has been carried out.

While towards the direct system, the supplies of 7.86 million ballot papers had been completed and 16 districts where the FPTP ballot papers have reached include Kailali, Kanchanpur, Achham, Doti, Dadeldhura, Bajhang, Baitadi, Darchula, Nawalparasi East, Nawalparasi West, Banke, Bardiya, Jajarkot, Kalikot, Dailkeh and Surkeht. Similarly, ballots meant for Humla, Jumla, Mugu and Bajura have been transported to Surkhet.

This time, the FPTP ballot paper is differ from one electoral constituency to another as it features the election symbols of only those political parties or candidates competing in the elections from the respective constituency instead of all registered at the EC for the purpose of election.

Likewise, there is uniformity in ballot papers for HoR elections under the proportional election system across the country while towards PA, different ballot papers will be there in accordance with the number of political parties in the province.
