Election Commission awards certificate to President-elect Poudel

Kathmandu, March 9: Nepali Congress senior leader Mr Ram Chandra Poudel has been awarded a certificate of being elected to the post of President. He is the third President of Nepal.

Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Thapalia handed over the certificate of election on Thursday at the Federal Parliament building in New Baneshwar. On the occasion, Election Officer Mahesh Sharma Poudel announced the results of the election, sharing that leader Poudel was elected to the post of the President.

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, Chairman of CPN (Unified Socialist) Madhav Kumar Nepal, Chairman of Loktantrik Samajbadi Party (LSP) Mahanth Thakur, Chairman of Nagarik Unmukti Party Ranjita Shrestha, Chairman of Janamat Party CK Raut, Election Commission commissioners, leaders and workers of various political parties were present on the occasion.

In the presidential election held today, Poudel received 33,802 votes and his competitor, Subash Nembang, received 15,518 votes.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission (EC) has informed that it will submit a report along with the result on the presidential election held today to the President Bidya Devi Bhandari on Friday.

EC’s Spokesperson Shaligram Sharma Poudyal said that the EC is scheduled to submit the report along with the election result as per the Clause 60 of the President and Vice-President Election Act-2074 BS.

Likewise, the EC has stated that the presidential election today was held in a peaceful and enthusiastic manner and has thanked all the political parties, candidates, officials, security personnel and all others for their role in conducting the polls in a free, fair, credible, transparent and fearless manner.
