The Election Commission (EC) has said it received assurance of Rs 8.11 billion from the Ministry of Finance for holding the upcoming election to the local level.
In a press meet today, EC Spokesperson Shaligram Sharma Poudel confirmed that the ministry has communicated to the EC confirming the budget. Prior to this, the EC had urged the ministry to ensure Rs 8.95 billion for the purpose of the local level poll.
Poudel said though the budget was less than the demand of the Election Commission the government committed to ensuring sufficient budget needed for holding poll.
Likewise, Spokesperson Poudel said a total of 80 political parties have submitted their application seeking registration for the purpose of local level poll and probe into the application is ongoing. Name of the political parties contesting the upcoming local level election would be released within March 10.
Similarly, name of the chief returning officers and returning officers to be deployed for the local level poll were received. Likewise, the EC said it would update the voter name list by March 10.
