KATHMANDU, Dec 21: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that the upcoming election to the House of Representatives would be an opportunity for all to test their popularity.
In an address to the nation on Monday, the Prime Minister has urged all to take part in the elections with unity by setting aside all bitterness that has surfaced among the parties.
He opined that the elections to the HoR would be the opportunity for leaders of ruling parties, who are in a hurry to become the Prime Minister, to test their popularity and for the opposition parties take their agenda among the people.
“Election is the place to decide the justice if the mandated government is not allowed to do its job. The people will have their final say regarding running the state. Trying to gain power through the backdoor is an undemocratic move. General election is decisive element for political stability. So I took the decision of dissolving the HoR,” the Prime Minister said.
Saying the country is not without people’s representatives in present condition as there is National Assembly, Provincial governments and local levels as well as all bodies of the state are carrying out their duties, he also called the younger generation to take part in the election with unity to protect democracy.
Indicating towards some leaders of his own party, Prime Minister Oli asked, “Why a conspiracy was hatched against him at a time when the government was making preparation to hold talks with India to resolve border problem and initiated activities for the implementation of trade and transport agreement with China.”
He argued that Nepal has achieved progress in development in this difficult situation, clarifying that he dissolved the HoR for fresh mandate as leaders of the ruling party became more aggressive against the government than the opposition.
The NCP Chair shared that the conspiracies hatched against the government and attempt to make the parliament hostage could not be regarded as democratic in any sense.
He clarified that the HoR was dissolved after his plan of uniting the party, transfer the leadership in a lawful manner and to run the parliament and government in a lawful manner was made unsuccessful.
The HoR was dissolved on December 20 and new elections to the HoR have been announced to be held in two phases on April 30 and May 10, 2021.
