Elephant found dead in Jhapa

Birtamod, May 22: A female elephant has been found dead in the Adarsh community forest area of Buddhashanti Rural Municipality-3 Charchabari of Jhapa district. This morning, local residents informed the police after seeing the dead elephant.

Tirtha Timsina, a local resident, informed that teams from Division Forest Office Jhapa, District Police Office, Area Police Office and Armed Police have reached the spot.

There is no electric fence at the place where the elephant was found dead. The cause of the elephant’s death is being investigated. The local residents have also offered prayers on the dead elephant. In the current fiscal year in Jhapa, the number of elephant deaths has reached two, while five people have died due to elephant attacks, according to the Division Forest Office.

Most of the wild elephants in Jhapa come from neighbouring country India.
