Kathmandu, July 11: The Immigration Office at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) has enforced a moral code of conduct for its employees beginning Friday.
Office Chief Bishnu Prasad Koirala said the ethical code has been implemented aiming to increase the effectiveness of the relevant services. The code encourages relevant employees to behave with service seekers as per the international values, principles and standards of immigration administration.
It also aims to encourage employees to be responsible and sensitive to existing national laws, and to social and cultural values, according to Chief Koirala.
With the implementation of additional ethical rules for the employees, the immigration services are expected to be more prompt, impartial, transparent, predictable and results-oriented. “We hope that employees will deliver in a way that passengers could feel the real improvements in the services,” he observed.
According to the Department of Immigration, the code requires staff to at least say “have a nice journey” to the outgoing passengers, and “welcome to Nepal” to those entering the country, while limiting questions to only those that are necessary.
The use of respectful language when addressing passengers departing for Gulf countries for jobs by refraining from rude behaviour with them has been included in the code. It also morally binds them to speak politely and demonstrate courtesy while communicating with passengers.
A survey has been in place so that a passenger could promptly provide feedback regarding services received on 15 points about the office. The participation in the survey is voluntary, it was shared.

NPL will be more systematic: Sports Minister Chaudhary
Kathmandu, July 11: Minister for Youth and Sports, Tejulal Chaudhary, has said the Nepal Cricket Association (CAN) would conduct the Nepal Premier League (NPL) tournament in a more systematic way.
Addressing the ‘Youth Journalism Awards’ handover programme organized by the Ministry in Kathmandu on Friday, Minister Chaudhary mentioned that despite various controversies, the NPL event would be managed smoothly. After the completion of the first edition, a complaint regarding the NPL was lodged with the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA).
In response, the anti-graft body sent a letter to the Ministry for necessary action.
Minister Chaudhary further reminded, “We have the Procurement Act and Regulations, the Sports Development Act-2075 to forward the procurement law. The NPL take places within the framework of laws and regulations.”
On a different note, Minister Chaudhary emphasized that the journalism must raise the voice of voiceless people by disseminating impartial and reliable news.
The Ministry has been providing the youth journalism award to encourage young journalists in sports and youth issues, according to him.

NC President Deuba remembers late leader Kandel
Baglung, July 11: Nepali Congress President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has remembered the role of the late Govinda Kandel in Nepali politics. Kandel had a significant contribution to Nepali politics, Deuba reminded.
President Deuba said it while addressing the condolence gathering the NC organized on 13th day of passing away of NC leader Govinda Prasad Sharma Kandel, a resident of Bihun in Baglung district. “Kandel adhered to BP’s ideology and remained honest and committed to democratic principles,” Deuba informed the gathering.
The NC President further said Kandel became a lawmaker but never wanted to hold power. He always advocated for people’s rights. “He has an incomparable contribution to the country and national politics,” Deuba said, urging NC cadres to follow his line.
In his evaluation, leader Kandel’s demise is a huge loss to party and national politics.
Kandel was the member of House of Representatives from constituency no 1 of Baglung district with his victory in the 2048 general election.
He was born at Kathekhola rural municipality-6 of Baglung on Poush 10 in 1995BS.

Rasuwa flash flood: Death toll reaches 11, 862 evacuated
Kathmandu, July 11: The death toll in the devastating flash flood that struck Rasuwa on Tuesday morning has reached 11. Prior to this, nine bodies were recovered and additional two bodies were retrieved from the lower belt of Trishuli River, according to Central Police Spokesperson DIG Binod Ghimire.
To date, 862 people who include those trapped in the flooding and left stranded mid-way due to the traffic obstructions after the disaster have been evacuated. They have been escorted to safety.
Among the 11 recovered bodies, only one has been identified. Several of the bodies were found in a maimed condition.
According to an update from the Police Headquarters in Naxal, Kathmandu, 19 people are still missing. Among three police persons who were earlier reported missing, the body of Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Lal Bahadur Shrestha has been recovered. The lifeless bodies are currently kept at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital.
Over 1300 security personnel have been mobilised to undertake the rescue works. The search for the missing ones is on, the police said.
The flash flood in the Lhende Stream along the Nepal-China border in Rasuwagadhi swept away the Miteri Bridge, the two-country bridge, on the border, damaging the Customs Office at Rasuwagadhi.
The road toward Timure from Dhunche has been massively damaged by the flood that swept away 24 containers, six trucks and 42 electric vehicles.
According to the preliminary finding of the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, an outburst of a supraglacial lake that lies along the upper catchment of the Lhende stream caused the flash flood.

Communist party unification on July 18
Kathmandu, July 11: The CPN (Unified Socialist) and the National Campaign for Unification of the Communist Party of Nepal led by Bamdev Gautam have agreed unification.
The agreement in this regard was signed Unified Socialist Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal, and campaign coordinator Gautam on Friday.
After the signing ceremony both leaders shared that they were ready to unite the parties, considering historical necessity of taking forward communist movement in Nepal. According to them, the party unification would be announced officially in a special programme in Kathmandu on July 18.

Economy improving: PM Oli
Kathmandu, July 11: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said national economy was improving of late.
In a social media post on Friday, PM Oli mentioned the revenue collection was upped by Rs 108 billion compared to the last fiscal year, indicating clear improvement in the national economy.
Till July 10 this fiscal year, Rs 1,097 billion was collected in revenue, he said, claiming, “Economy sees upward trend. In a year since formation of this government, the economy increased by Rs 400 billion, thereby reaching Rs 6,100 billion.”
Moreover, the PM reminded that capital spending is upped by Rs 36 billion since last fiscal year.

Finance Minister insists on growth in power production for economic prosperity
Kathmandu, July 11: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Bishnu Paudel, has said economic prosperity could be achieved by increasing power generation.
During his address to a programme organised by the Nepal Association of Financial Journalists (NAFIJ) here Friday, the Finance Minister said it is equally important to ensure the purchase of power and enhance consumption capacity while seeking growth in production.
Paudel expressed commitment to introducing policies that encourage private sector investment in hydropower developments. He also echoed the need for flexible banking and financial policies to protect such investments.
Underlining the need to expand both the tax net and tax rate, he stated that the government is in favour of a stable tax policy. He acknowledged that taxation policies have an overall impact on the country’s development so collective support was imperative to maintain relative stability in tax policies and rates.
He also reiterated the government’s commitment to addressing irregularities in business practices.
On the occasion, several journalists contributing to economic development through reporting were honoured.

Man killed in tiger attack
Chitwan, July 11: Padam Bahadur Ranamagar, 68, of Khairhani municipality-13 was killed in a tiger attack here Friday.
Ranamagar, along with two others, had left for the local Kumroj buffer-zone community forest to collect fodder in the morning, but failed to return.
During the search, his body was found in the forest, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police, Rabindra Khanal. DSP Khanal said Ranamagar might have died in the tiger attack as his lifeless body indicated.
The body has been brought to the Bharatpur Hospital for a post-mortem.

Complete development projects in time: PM Oli
Kathmandu, July 11: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has directed the subordinates to complete development projects in time. The trend of over-spending in and delaying the construction works and afflicting people must end, he stressed.
In his address to the 54th meeting of the national development problems resolution committee held in Singh Durbar on Friday, PM Oli directed the ministers, secretaries and project chiefs to identify the problems behind the slow pace of development projects and make correction accordingly.
The Head of the Government expressed worry why the contracting for remaining tasks under the Sunkoshi-Marin Diversion was not made despite completion of tunnel. Such delayed pace of development must not persist, he reminded.
Once these problems continue, we can not ensure result and amount in time, according to him.
Moreover, the PM reminded, “We’ve a policy to provide grant to farmers on chemical fertilizers, but there is an acute shortage of fertilizers. Let’s stop afflicting people.” He further questioned why we could not reduce grants while increasing supply.
PM Oli said, “We need to intensify the development pace. The project begun with the estimated cost of Rs 12 billion is completed when the cost soars to Rs 52 billion. How and why did such condition arise? Don’t those responsible for such mess deserve action?”
He further suggested all attending the meeting to resort to alternative measures if the contracted companies fail to deliver in time. Development needs speeding up in a sweeping manner through the change in work style.
The meeting run for four hours was attended by Deputy Prime Ministers, Ministers, Chief Ministers, Chief Secretary and Secretaries. They dwelt on problems relating to various ministries.
On the occasion, Vice Chairman of the National Planning Commission, Prof Dr Shivraj Adhikari, made a presentation on economic indicators, public finance management, and progress relating to social and infrastructural developments, SDGs and upgrading to the status of developing country.

‘Nepal-China relations based on Panchasheel principles’
Kathmandu, July 11: Chief of Army Staff Ashok Raj Sigdel has said that Nepal-China relations, founded on the principles of Panchasheel, are incomparable. He added that the ties between the Nepali Army and the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) are equally cordial.
During his address to a reception held the Chinese Embassy on Friday to mark the 98th anniversary of the PLA, the Army Chief applauded the PLA’s support to Nepal during the COVID-19 pandemic and the post-earthquake recovery efforts.
The reception was hosted by the Defense Attaché of the Embassy, Lyu Guozheng.
Acknowledging the support from the Chinese government to Nepal in disaster management and post-disaster rescue through the PLA, he said that cooperation between the two military forces continues in the form of joint military exercises and collaboration on matters of mutual interest and concern.
China’s Ambassador to Nepal, Chen Song, stated that the PLA stands against authoritarianism and is guided by the principles of peace and the vision of building a collective future. He said that he has dedicated his tenure to further strengthening Nepal-China friendly relations.
Lyu said that PLA has, at the call of the United Nations, been deployed in conflict-ridden countries, and that international security and humanitarian assistance are among its priorities.

RPP leader Rana feted
Kathmandu, July 11: Senior leader of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), Pashupati Shamsher JB Rana, has been feted on his 84th birthday on Friday. Different 84 social organizations and his party RPP honoured him by organizing a special event at Nepal Academy in Kathmandu.
On this occasion, RPP Chairman Rajendra Lingden and former Secretary Dwarikanath Dhungel addressed the event and discussed his political and social roles in Nepali society.
Rana, who served as the former President of the RPP, was born on Baishakh 25, 1998 BS. He had started his early career as a joint secretary at then Ministry of Griha Panchayat and the central bank director.
Later Rana joined politics and was elected as the Member of the Rastriya Panchayat and the House of Representatives.
He served as the ministers for multiple times. Now, he is the senior most Member of the House of Representatives.

SAFF U-20 Women Championship: Nepal win opening match against Bhutan by 6-1
Kathmandu, July 11: Nepal won the opening match of the SAFF U-20 Women’s Championship Football with a hat-trick from Purnima Rai. The match was held at the Bashundhara Kings Arena in Dhaka, Bangladesh on Friday. Nepal defeated Bhutan with a score of 6-1.
For Bhutan, Kelden Wangmo scored the consolation goal in the 54th minute.
Nepal’s Senu scored the first goal in the 9th minute. Purnima Rai added another in the 18th minute, giving Nepal a two-goal lead. Senu scored again in the 45th minute, and Nepal led 3-0 at halftime.
Purnima scored two more goals in the 63rd and 88th minutes, completing her hat-trick.
In another match, host Bangladesh defeated Sri Lanka by 9-0.
