Fire in plywood industry extinguished after two days



Birtamod, March 14: The fire that broke out at the plywood industry at Jamirgadhi in Mechinagar municipality-15 since Monday morning has been extinguished on Wednesday.

It took more than 60 hours to put out the fire that led to a damage worth Rs 150 million, said Santosh Acharya, the owner of the industry.

The main block of the industry has been completely damaged while a large amount of wood pellets and manufactured ply have been reduced to ashes. Considered to be the largest in Nepal, the plywood industry employed 1200 workers.

The goods produced by the industry were being exported abroad. A total of 12 fire engines including by neighbouring India was employed to extinguish the fire.

Chief of District Police Office, Jhapa, Milan KC, said that teams of Nepal Army, Armed Police Force and Nepal Police were mobilized along with the local people to put out the fire. #nepal
