FNJ draws attention of PM Deuba over media laws



The Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) has drawn the attention of Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba seeking his initiatives to conclude various media-related laws. As the five-year tenure of the House of Representatives is nearing completion, these laws including the Media Council Bill have yet to be concluded, it expressed concerns.

FNJ representatives today called on the PM and demanded so. Media related laws should be friendly to press freedom and freedom of expression, they stressed. For a lack of media-related laws, journalists were being troubled by attracting laws including the electronic transactions act, it expressed worry.

On the occasion, PM Deuba positively took the demands put by the FNJ representatives, and issued a telephonic direction to Minister for Communications and Information Technology Gyanendra Bahadur Karki to take initiatives to conclude media-related laws soon. Present on the occasion were the FNJ President Bipul Pokhrel, Senior Vice President Ramesh Bista and General Secretary Roshan Puri.

Earlier, FNJ representatives met with Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota and drew his attention to this effect.RSS
