Kathmandu, Dec 13: Election to select the new leadership of the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) is being held today. The election, delayed multiple times due to membership disputes, is finally taking place. FNJ is one of the largest social organization in the country.
For the upcoming three-year term, Nirmala Sharma, Ramesh Bista, and Devi Prasad Sapkota are seen as the main contenders for the presidency. According to latest data, the Nirmala Sharma panel have more than 70 percent members in her fold, however, the chances of cross voting remains high as Ramesh Bista was also popular among the Nepali journalists.
Sharma is running as a candidate from a joint panel of CPN UML-affiliated Press Chautari Nepal and Nepali Congress-affiliated Nepal Press Union, while Bista represents the CPN (Maoist Centre)-affiliated Press Centre and CPN (Unified Socialist) affiliated Socialist Press Organization. Sapkota is competing as an independent candidate.
For the senior vice-presidential position, Deepak Acharya from the Union-Chautari alliance and Roshan Puri from the Centre-Socialist Press group are the primary competitors.
In the women’s vice-presidential category, Neetu Pandit and Ganga Baral are in the race. For the inclusive vice-president, the key contenders are Umesh Bagchand, Mohan Singh, and Subash Sah.
Similarly, for the general secretary, Ram Prasad Dahal (Union-Chautari), Lekhnath Neupane (Center-Socialist), and independent candidate Janmadev Jaisi are vying for the role.
There are nearly eight thousands members across the country. All the members will cast their votes for key posts like President, Vice President, General Secretary and Treasurer. #FNJ #Nepal #vote
