Formation of incumbent government aims to take country towards development

Dhangadhi, Aug 29: Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dr Arzu Rana Deuba, has said the formation of the incumbent government aims to steer ahead the country towards the path of development and prosperity.

Speaking at a press meet organized by Nepal Press Union (NPU) Kailali at her private residence in Dhangadhi today, the Minister and the Nepali Congress central member said the two major political parties got united to form the coalition government with the realization of the need to address mismanagement and crisis, and to promote development and prosperity in the country.

“It has been unusual for some people to see the two major parties forming the coalition government while history shows that whenever there was a crisis in the country, the NC and UML were united to address the situation,” she added.

Stating that instability has hampered the progress in the country, hindering the government from delivering as per the citizen’s aspirations, the leader said the existing government would continue until the next election going to be held after three years.

According to the Foreign Minister, the government is expected to review the Constitution without hampering its spirit and sentiments.

The Constitution remaining as a document for peace will not be amended for changes in its special characteristics such as pluralism and inclusion, she said.

Talking about her recent official visit to India, the Foreign Minister said she talked about the need to construct a bridge over the Mahakali River at Jhulaghat point of Baitadi and Parashuram in Dadeldhura.

The Indian side is positive about the proposal to support a project to build a cricket stadium at Phapla of Dhangadhi, she said, adding that her Indian counterpart has talked about it with the Board of Control of Cricket in India as well.  According to the Minister, she raised the issues of upgrading the Gauriphanta point and releasing water for irrigation from the Tanakpur Barrage.

She also said the government is seriously making efforts to ensure a safe release of Bipin Joshi of Mahendranagar, a Nepali student in Israel said to be held hostage by the Hamas militants since October, last year.
