Kathmandu, Nov 4  : Outgoing Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR) Krishna Bahadur Mahara has been sent to jail today.

A single bench of Kathmandu district court justice Sudarshan Pandey handed down the decision to send him to jail for further investigation, said Information officer of the court Gyan Bahadur Karki.

The decision was taken after completion of the hearing over an attempt to rape case against Mahara that had begun on Sunday.

A total of 32 advocates had registered to plead on behalf of Mahara while four lawyers pleaded on behalf of the petitioner, the government side.

The district government attorney had filed a case of rape against Mahara last Thursday. Mahara continued to remain under judicial custody since his arrest on the charge of attempting to rape a parliament secretariat staff.
