Former President Bhandari extends best wishes on Gaijatra festival



Kathmandu, Aug 10: Former President Bidya Devi Bhandari has extended best wishes to all Nepali citizens on the occasion of the Gaijatra festival today.

The former Head of the State extended her greetings through social media today, mentioning that the festival, celebrated in various parts of the country in different ways and styles, reflects cultural diversity and national unity. Former President Bhandari noted, ‘On the occasion of Gaijatra (also known as Saanparu), an important cultural festival for Nepalis, especially celebrated by the Newar community in honor of deceased ancestors and for the liberation of their souls, I express heartfelt greetings to all Nepali sisters and brothers.’

Former President Bhandari expressed a wish that the Gaijatra festival inspires everyone to enhance mutual respect, tolerance, and cultural pride.  She stated, “This festival plays a significant role in preserving our cultural heritage expressing gratitude to our ancestors, accepting death as the eternal truth of life, strengthening mutual harmony and coexistence in society, and critically addressing the existing distortions and inconsistencies in the society through humor and satire.”
