Kathmandu, July 25: Four ministers from the Nepali Congress have resigned from the Bagmati Province government, amid internal party efforts to change the provincial leadership.
The ministers who stepped down on Friday include Minister for Culture and Tourism Bimal Thakuri, Minister for Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation Madhu Kumar Shrestha, Minister for Youth and Sports Meena Krishna Maharjan, and Minister for Internal Affairs and Law Suraj Chandra Lamichhane.
They had been serving under Chief Minister Bahadur Singh Lama’s government, where the Nepali Congress had held eight ministerial positions.
According to party sources, the resignations are part of a larger political move to replace Lama as chief minister.
Discussions on reconfiguring the coalition or installing a new leader from within the party have intensified in recent weeks, though no official decision has been made public. #nepal #bagmati
