Fruit gardens expanded across 2,000 ropanis in Tanahu

Kathmandu, July 27: The fruit gardens have been expanded across 2,000 ropanis of land in Tanahu district in the past one year.

Three farmer groups, 28 agriculture firms and one cooperative are benefited by the park establishment and expansion programme run by the Agriculture Knowledge Centre in Tanahu.

Chief of Centre, Gopal Sharma Lamichhane, shared that orange farming was conducted in 2,036 ropanis of land under this programme. Of Rs 4.5 million allocated for this scheme in last fiscal year 2023/24, over Rs 3 million was spent, he shared.

The farmers are attracted to fruits farming for making them self-reliant. The Centre provided saplings of various fruits such as litchi, papaya, jackfruit, guava, avocado and among others.

Furthermore, manure, machines and tools including water pumping motor, digital weighing machine used for farming were also provided to the farmers.

The Centre distributed Rs 3.8 million to the farmers under the orchard management and strengthening scheme, Lamichhane said. The programme benefitted 153 households including four farmer groups and 53 agriculture firms, according to the Centre.

Oranges were planted across 832 ropanis of land as part of the programme, it was said. #fruit #nepal #rss
