Fugitive with Interpol Red Notice arrested in Cambodia



Kathmandu, Oct 25: A fugitive against whom Interpol issued a Red Notice in a foreign employment fraud case has been arrested in Cambodia. The individual apprehended is Sujan Acharya from Triyuga Municipality-10, Udayapur, according to Central Police Spokesperson and Deputy Inspector General Dan Bahadur Karki.

He stated, “The suspect, who was arrested in coordination with NCB Phnom Penh, has been brought back to Nepal today, Friday, for legal proceedings related to the case.”

Sujan Acharya and Binu Shakya were accused of defrauding over 40 individuals out of Rs 52.94 million by promising to send them to Singapore for foreign employment. Following a request from the Crime Investigation Department of the Police Headquarters to Interpol for international search and apprehension, a Red Notice was issued against them on Magh 19, 2080 BS.

Additionally, it was revealed during the investigation that a case related to electronic transactions was filed against Sujan at the District Police Complex, Kathmandu, on Jestha 13, 2079BS, and a case regarding fraud and criminal gain was filed at the Maharajgunj police station on Baisakh 25, 2080 BS.

After this information emerged, the police headquarters communicated with all Interpol member countries to search for the suspects and bring them back to Nepal for legal action.

On Ashwin 1, 2081BS, both individuals were arrested in Cambodia, with Sujan being brought back to Nepal today for legal proceedings concerning the related offenses, as reported by the police headquarters. #interpol #nepal #RedCorner
