Galleries established in honour of Nepali soldiers who fought World Wars



Gulmi, Aug 30: A Gurkha Gallery has been established in Lahure Village of Satyawati rural municipality in honour of the Nepali soldiers who fought in the First and Second World Wars.

The Gallery was set up through the personal efforts of Lieutenant Kul Bahadur Budathoki, and it feat A Gurkha Gallery ures brief bio and photographs of British Gurkhas from the region who served in both world wars. It is now being developed into a study center for researchers interested in the history of Gurkhas and military contributions of Nepalis.

Budathoki said he voluntarily invested in establishing the Gallery to preserve and promote the historic legacy of British ex-Gurkhas.

Similarly, another gallery of a similar nature has been established in Bharse. This gallery displays photographs of ex-British Gurkhas, Nepalis serving in the Indian Army, former Nepali Army personnel, Nepal Police officers, civil servants, and social workers.

According to social activist Nar Bahadur Budathoki, the gallery aims to recognize the contributions of individuals from various sectors.

Lieutenant Kul Bahadur Budathoki said 84 British Gurkhas from Bharse fought in the First World War and 178 in the Second World War.

The Ex-British Gurkha Gallery displays photos of 34 deceased ex-British Gurkhas, including Karna Bahadur Rana, the youngest and first Nepali recipient of the Victoria Cross.

It also features Shree Prasad Budathoki, the first Nepali to become a Colonel in the Indian Army, and his father Giri Prasad Budathoki, both of whom served in the same troop during the First World War.

Kul Bahadur’s own father, Moti Bahadur Budathoki, was also a part in the First World War. Kul Bahadur invested around Rs 5.7 million to establish the galleries.

The Bharse Gallery features over 400 photographs, including those of former personnel from the Nepali Army, Nepal Police, civil services, and notable social workers. #nepal #Galleries #rss #World Wars
