Gandaki chief Kunwar stresses on healthy competition in tourism sector



Pokhara, Sept 24: Gandaki State chief Baburam Kunwar has said an unhealthy competition among tourism entrepreneurs would demean the tourism sector.

In his address to an interaction programe on ‘Pokhara’s tourism’ here Wednesday, he said a conflict caused by the unhealthy competition in tourism’s sector would detach entrepreneurs from professional duties and responsibilities.

He took time to call on tourism entrepreneurs to focus on tourism infrastructure development by realising the demand of time and interest of tourists.

He sought cooperation and support from the entire citizen to make the Nepal Visit Year successful citing that it was a common goal of ours.

Former president of Federation of Nepalese Chamber of Commerce and Industry Ananda Raj Mulmi described intolerance, lack of peace, insecurity and disorder as the bane for domestic tourism.

He insisted on promoting the aviation sector for the convenience of foreign tourists arriving Nepal as data showed that 81 percent tourist arrivals here took place through air flights.

Nepal Tourism Board’s Gandaki chief Kashiraj Bhandari stressed the need of diversities in tourism while tourism entrepreneur Ganesh Bhattarai complained that though private sector had a significant contribution to tourism, it was yet to be properly recognised by the State.

Pokhara Tourism Council’s chair Chiranjibi Pokhrel described tourism sector as the base of economic progress, seeking the enactment of tourism-friendly policies and programmes.

Programme organiser Tourism Entrepreneur Women’s Association of Nepal president Lakki Karki expressed her concern that Pokhara’s tourism was losing its charm day by day and tourists’ stay had become shorter, seeking the attention of all stakeholders concerned towards that end.
