Gandaki Chief Minister Prithvi Subba Gurung resigns

POKHARA: Gandaki Chief Minister Prithvi Subba Gurung has resigned.

He has resigned the day before the voting on no-confidence motion against the Chief Minister was to take place on Monday. The Nepali Congress, CPN (Maoist Centre) and Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) has brought a no-confidence motion.

State Chief Sita Kumari Poudel has thanked for the work done so far and urged the existing Council of Ministers to function under Article 169 (3) of the Constitution until another Council of Ministers is formed.

On Sunday, State Chief Poudel called on the political parties to form a new government within three days as per Article 168 (2) of the constitution. Article 168 (2) provides for the appointment of a member of the State Assembly with the support of two or more parties as the Chief Minister.

The opposition alliance has proposed Krishna Chandra Nepali from Nepali Congress as the new State Chief Minister.
