Gen Z Movement: Overall physical loss was recorded at Rs 84.45 billion



Kathmandu, Dec 11: A committee formed by the government to assess the loss happened during the Gen Z movement, and to prepare plans for the reconstruction of public infrastructure submitted its report to Prime Minister Sushila Karki.

The Committee Coordinator and Secretary of the National Planning Commission Rabilal Pantha shared the executive summary of the report on Thursday’s meeting of the Council of Ministers, the Prime Minister’s Secretariat stated.

The committee formed under the coordination of the National Planning Commission Secretary submitted its report in 75 days.

According to the committee, a total of 262 local levels of 54 districts in all seven provinces witnessed losses during the Gen Z Movement.

As per the report, 20 people died on September 8, 37 on September 9 and 20 other people died after the protests of September 8 and 9.

Likewise, the report mentioned that 429 people including 17 people under 13 years were injured. The overall physical loss was recorded at Rs 84.45 billion, according to the assessment by the committee.

Similarly, the overall 2,168 bodies or institutions were affected due to the protests. It said that 2,671 buildings were damaged and the total loss was more than Rs 39.31 billion.

During the Gen Z Movement, altogether 12,659 vehicles were damaged, causing a loss of Rs 12.93 billion.

The report stated that the government/public sector witnessed a loss of Rs 44.93 billion while the private sector lost properties worth Rs 33.54 billion. And, the community and other sectors’ loss was recorded at Rs 5.97 billion.
