
Gorkha, Feb 20: The Gorkha Durbar Museum, which has been developing as a center for studying Nepal’s unification history, has attracted more than 75,000 visitors in the past eight months.
According to Museum Chief Jaynarayan Karki, a total of 75,791 domestic and international tourists visited the museum from Shrawan to Magh (July to February) in the current FY 2024/25. Among them, students visiting on educational tours make up the largest group.
“The Gorkha Durbar Museum offers insights into Nepal’s unification history,” said Chief Karki. “During the educational tour season, many students from various districts come here for observation and study.”
Additionally, tourists from SAARC countries and other countries have also been visiting the museum. Based on visitor records, 43,848 were students, 30,704 were domestic tourists, 1,166 were from third countries, and 73 were SAARC nationals.
The Gorkha Durbar Museum provides visitors with the opportunity to study the history of King Prithvi Narayan Shah, the founder of Nepal’s unification campaign, along with other Shah dynasty rulers.
The museum displays Prithvi Narayan Shah’s personal belongings, including his astrological chart (china), utensils, measuring tools (manapathi), weapons, and various artistic artifacts.
The architectural features of the museum also attract visitors. The three-faced wooden window, intricately carved wooden struts (tundals), and a veranda supported by 16 artistically crafted pillars add to its historical charm.
The museum houses 12 exhibition rooms, including sections showcasing diverse ethnic cultures and traditions, a Divya Upadesh (Divine Teachings) section, a genealogy room, and a religious traditions section.
Established in 2065 BS, the Gorkha Durbar Museum continues to serve as a prominent historical and cultural landmark, drawing both national and international visitors. #nepal #gorkha #ShahDynasty
