Kathmandu, Sept 12: The government of Nepal has appointed Professor Dr Sri Krishna Giri as the Vice Chairman of the Medical Education Commission.
According to Minister of Education Giriraj Mani Pokhrel, today’s Cabinet meeting picked Professor Giri as the Vice Chairman of the Council. He was among the three contenders for the post.
The two other candidates were Prof Dr Surendra Sherchan and Prof Dr Shambhu Kumar Pahari. A total of nine persons applied for the post.
By profession an orthopedic surgeon Prof Giri has already served Registrar at NAMS. He is currently working at National Trauma Center as senior orthopedic surgeon. He had received medical education (MBBS and MS) from TU Institute of Medicine, Maharajgunj.
He has already served in different medical education-related studies in the country.
After six months of the publication of Medical Education Act, the Commission has got new leadership. According to law, the Vice Chairman will have to play a role of the executive. Prime Minister will be the Chairman of the Council. The term of the new Vice Chairman will be of 4 years.
