Government decides to hold National Assembly elections on January 25



Kathmandu, Nov 29: The government has decided to hold elections for the vacant posts of members of the National Assembly on January 25, 2023.

Government Spokesperson and Minister of Communication and Information Technology Rekha Sharma informed that the meeting of the Council of Ministers held this morning at the Prime Minister’s Office at Singh Durbar decided to hold the election based on the consultation with the Election Commission of Nepal.

One third of the 20 MPs along with Speaker Ganesh Prasad Timilsina are leaving the National Assembly, which is the Upper House of the Federal Parliament, from March 4.

Who’s term expiring?

Nepali Congress – Anita Devkota, Jitendra Narayan Dev, Prakash Panth and Ramesh Jung Rayamajhi

CPN (UML) – Indu Kadaria, Deepa Gurung, Dilkumari Rawal, Kumar Dasaudi, Narpati Luwar, Bhairav Sundar Shrestha and Ram Chandra Rai

CPN Maoist Centre – Bina Pokharel, Mahesh Kumar Mahara, Hariram Chaudhary

Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP)– Pramila Kumari

CPN (Unified Socialist) Party – Nanda Chapai, Singh Bahadur Bishwakarma

Independent – Dr. Khimlal Devkota

Nominated by the President –  Dr. Bimala Paudyal

 

Security agencies to be deployed in Jajarkot/Rukum

The cabinet meeting also decided to mobilize the security agencies for the construction of temporary housing for the earthquake victims of Jajarkot and Rukum. She said that under the leadership of the Chief District Officer of the affected district, Nepal Army, Armed Police Force and Nepal Police personnel will be deployed for the construction of temporary housing.

Minister Sharma informed that if there is a shortage of human resources in the district, it has been decided to deploy more human resources based on the demand of the Chief District Officer. The meeting has also decided to promote Shweta Dawadi to the post of vacant secretary of Nepal Engineering Service and appoint High Court judge Lekhnath Paudel as the president of the military special court.
