Government to work keeping country, people at centre: Dr Mahat

Lalitpur, Sept 17: Finance Minister Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat today said the government would work putting the country and people at the centre.

Speaking at an event to lay the foundation stone for the proposed building for Bajrabarahi Chapagaun Hospital in Godavari Municipality-11 in Lalitpur, the minister said the government would keep into consideration welfare of the country and people in carrying out development activities.

“There is a need to ensure quality healthcare to all citizens of the country. Our needs are more than our capacity. Small revenues were collected last year. We are finding some difficulty to meet the demand. Now, the situation is improving. Despite this, we are committed to work putting the country and people at the centre while mobilizing resources,” he said.

There was a need for every level to provide positive message and hold a dialogue on the potentials and employment creation in Nepal, and such work would boost confidence in people, he said. Stressing the need for all people of the country to energise the cycle of economic activities, the minister viewed that all citizens should play a role in this regard.

Mentioning that the average life expectancy of Nepali people has increased to 71 years from 54 years in 2052 BS, he was of the view that there was a need to ensure quality health services to every citizen to further improve the index.

Similarly, Rishidev Phuyal, chief of the district coordination committee, Lalitpur, said there should not be shortage of budget for the construction of the hospital building while stressing the need for the completion of the project soon.

The Municipality mayor Gajendra Maharjan said the project cost is estimated to be Rs 175 million, and the Bagmati provincial government has called for bidding for Rs 35 million for the project.
