Kathmandu, Dec 11, 2019 : The government has announced cash prize to the gold medal winners of the 13th South Asian Games that came to a close on Tuesday.
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli made the announcement at a programme organized in honour of SAG medalists at his official residence in Baluwatar on Wednesday.
According to the PM, every gold medalist player will get Rs 900 thousand, while those receiving two or more than two gold medals will get Rs 1.1 million.
Likewise, those bagging gold medals in the team event will be provided half million rupees each and the coach too gets similar amount.
Similarly, PM Oli shared that the player bagging silver medal will get Rs 600 thousand and those bagging bronze medals will be provided Rs 300 thousand.
The prize announcement programme was attended by Minister for Youths and Sports, Jagat Bahadur Bishwokarma, Nepal Olympic Committee Chairperson, Jeevanram Shrestha, Member Secretary of National Sports Council, Ramesh Kumar Silwal and NCP leader Subash Chandra Nembang.
In the SAG that concluded yesterday, Nepal stood second after with 51 gold, 60 silver and 95 bronze medals.
Govt committed to developing sports: PM Oli
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said government is committed to developing the sports sector. PM Oli said this during a programme organized at his residence, Baluwatar, to announce cash prizes to the athletes bagging medals in the 13th South Asian Games.
He extended best wishes to all players, officials, coaches, and other helpful hands to make the 13th SAG successful. “We should be prepared to get more gold medals in 14th SAG,” he encouraged the players.
“Nepal and all Nepalis are happy over the achievements made in the SAG. Next time Nepal hosts SAG, every State will have a stadium,” the PM said, adding that he watched SAG from hospital and residence despite having yearning for watching it live at the stadium. Honesty and diligence are key to Nepali players’ success. Nepali players have strength and skills to win the games, he claimed.
At the programme attended by more than 300 persons, including players, coaches and official relating to sports, PM Oli further encouraged players to break their own records. Nepali football team played better against Bhutan as compared to the past, he said, urging all players to boost practices.
On the occasion, Minister for Youths and Sports gifted the mascot of 13th SAG to the PM at the programme.
