Govt fails to live up to constitutional spirit: Dr Mahat

Kathmandu, Oct 19 : Assistant general secretary of main opposition Nepali Congress, Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat has said the government was failing to work in line with the spirit of the constitution.

At a festive greetings exchange programme organized by the NC Kathmandu, constituency-5 committee here today, leader Mahat, also the former Minister, argued the government was even failing to live up to the aspirations of the people.

He argued that the government cannot achieve the goal of Prosperous Nepal: Happy Nepali as it was involving in corruption instead of delivering good governance.

NC Kathmandu committee President Sabuj Baniya said that the government was panicking people by increasing taxes in each sector.

‘People and people’s representatives should stand together for development’

Nepali Congress (NC) leader Prakash Man Singh said the country’s development is possible with collaborative efforts of peoples and people’s representatives.

At the greetings exchange and tea reception hosted by Tokha municipality-11 here today, he said politics should not prevail in development and construction.

“In multiparty system, political parties to the people’s door with their manifesto and envision to work in line with the manifesto. Therefore, all should lend support to the people’s representatives for development to occur”, former minster Singh asserted.

State-3 State Assembly member Yogendra Sangraula expressed his confidence that the festivals help strengthen national unity through people are divided in different polities.

State Assembly member Jeevan Dangol urged the government to ramp up its efforts to materialize the national goal ‘Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali’.

NC Kathmandu President Sabuj Baniya accused the two-third majority government of being failure to work for the welfare of the people. “Corruption is propping up at all three tiers of government. People should keep vigilance to check corruption”.

Speaking on the occasion, Nepal Communist Party Tokha Coordinator Deepak Baniya and NC Tokha President Basanta Shrestha, among others said politics should not block development.
