Health Insurance Board calls for responsible use of insurance services

Health Insurance Board

Kathmandu, Jan 27: The Health Insurance Board has appealed to both service recipients and service providers to act responsibly to ensure the effectiveness and sustainability of the Health Insurance Program.

Issuing an appeal on Tuesday, the Board urged insured citizens to use health services judiciously, refrain from misusing insurance facilities, and avoid pressuring doctors or health workers to conduct unnecessary laboratory tests.

Likewise, service-providing health institutions have been requested to strictly comply with prevailing laws, procedures, and circulars issued by the Board, and to carry out check-ups, laboratory tests, and treatments only when medically justified.

The Board stated that despite limited resources and certain structural challenges, around 50,000 citizens are currently receiving services through the health insurance scheme every day. This has helped prevent an average daily expenditure of Rs. 80 million from the pockets of ordinary citizens, thereby strengthening financial protection.

Addressing reports of service disruptions at some health institutions, the Board reaffirmed its commitment to resolve existing issues and further strengthen the Health Insurance Program to make it more robust, systematic, effective, and citizen-friendly. #insurance #nepal
