Kathmandu, Oct 4: Long-distance vehicles that departed from the Kathmandu Valley this morning have started turning back due to heavy rainfall affecting major highways across the country.
According to the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police, service operators were alerted about landslides that occurred at multiple points along key routes, forcing many to cancel their journeys and return to the Valley.
Naresh Raj Subedi, spokesperson for the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office, confirmed that landslides along the BP Highway, Araniko Highway, and Prithvi Highway have left vehicles stranded midway.
“Landslides have forced vehicles that had already departed from the Valley to return to Kathmandu,” Subedi said. “At present, all major routes in and out of the Valley are essentially closed. Vehicles are being stationed at safe points, as road travel under current conditions poses serious risks. These precautions are necessary to prevent potential loss of life and property.”
The Department of Roads has also restricted vehicle access to the BP Highway starting at 10 a.m. today. Meanwhile, the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has forecast continued heavy rainfall until October 6 and urged the public to remain vigilant and take necessary safety measures. #nepal #highway #monsoon #weather
