
Kathmandu, March 7: Rastriya Swatantra Party lawmaker Dr Tosima Karki has said a time has come where all women lawmakers should be united to fight against state’s discrimination on women.
During an emergency hour in today’s meeting of the House of Representatives, she pointed out the need of launching struggle being united for the social, political and professional rights of women. Lawmaker Karki argued that though the constitution has mentioned about gender equality, the attitude of the state towards women has not yet changed.
“Let this parliament present the example of gender equality by correcting discrimination the state is doing against women. Not only the slogan of women equality, let the state bear the responsibility”, she mentioned.
Karki objected to government’s recent decision of appointing another person to the post of Secretary by keeping Dr Sangita Mishra, who is in the first position on the basis of seniority, aside while appointing secretary at the Ministry of Health and Population.She shared that the Prime Minister, Minister for Federal Affairs and General Administration and health Minister to clear the house in this regard.
‘Why the cabinet meeting took this decision. A male minister cannot work with women secretary or women leadership cannot be accepted?”, she questioned. Similarly, lawmaker of CPN (Unified Socialist), Ammar Bahadur Thapa, drew government’s attention to provide facility to the people by completing the petroleum exploration taking place in Dailekh as soon as possible.
Similarly, Narayani Sharma called for ensuring women’s equal rights on parental property and 5 per cent representation in politics.She called for enacting laws establishing equal property rights and guaranteeing 50 per cent representation of women along with the executive power in all state bodies.
Lawmakers Manish Jha, Deepak Bahadur Singh, Dr Amaresh Kumar Singh, Metmani Chaudhary and Tshering Lhamu Lama Tamang also voiced their opinions on various issues of public concern during the ’emergency hour’ of the HoR meeting today.#nepal #political #rss
