Human rights violation in Baglung district



Baglung, Dec 22, 2019 : Incidents of human rights violation are found to have been increasing in Baglung district. The number of violations doubled this year in compared to the previous year.

According to data released by Informal Sector Service Centre here Saturday, a total of 105 incidents of human rights violation took place in the 11 months of 2019.

The number was only 57 in the same period in 2018, said INSEC district representative Srijana Pant. Lack of access to justice and absence of awareness raising campaign against violence are reasons behind the rise in the number of human rights violation.

During the period, 46 incidents of domestic violence, eight sexual assault, nine rape, five attempt to rape, 11 violation of civil and political rights, one each of threatening, assault over education institution, racial discrimination, human trafficking, and other incidents were recorded. The data was collected for the INSEC human rights year book 2020.

Speaking at the programme, Gandaki State Assembly member Indra Lal Sapkota, Chief District Officer Luk Bahadur Chettri and other speakers called for serious efforts to curb the increasing incidents of human rights violation in the district.
