Kathmandu, Dec 11: CPN (UML) Chairman KP Sharma Oli has said that he may continue to lead the party as Chair through the upcoming 11th National Congress, either through consensus or by securing the votes of the delegates.
Speaking at an interaction with editors organised by Press Chautari Nepal today, Chairman Oli expressed confidence that the 11th National Congress would introduce changes to the current status quo, leading to a gradual generational transition and leadership handover within the party.
Stating that he would not operate under pressure or by setting preconditions, Oli urged Senior Vice Chair Ishwar Pokharel and other leaders to prioritise internal consensus rather than advancing proposals from outside the party’s mechanisms.
The former Prime Minister and UML Chair said that the party, with its long political history, has consistently aligned itself with public aspirations and remains committed to the nation-building process.
He called upon those who claim they want to “finish UML” to attend the inaugural session of the National Congress in Sallaghari, Bhaktapur, on December 13, and observe the party’s organisational strength for themselves.
Chairman Oli also stated that he had held discussions with Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba on key national political issues, including the restoration of Parliament, noting that the UML supports reinstatement.
Referring to previous court rulings that he accepted despite dissatisfaction, Oli remarked that there is no legal provision requiring him to provide a statement to the inquiry commission formed to investigate the September 8–9 movement.
The UML’s 11th National Congress is scheduled to take place from December 13 to 15. #nepal #uml #politics
