ICE deports 37 more Nepalis amid Trump’s immigration crackdown



Kathmandu, Sept 3: The United States has deported another 37 Nepali nationals, who are scheduled to arrive in Kathmandu today via a chartered flight. The deportation was carried out by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

According to the Tribhuvan International Airport Immigration Office, as many as 215 Nepalis have already been deported from the United States in just eight months, from January to August.

The deportees are being flown in on an Omni Air chartered aircraft, flight number N828AX, expected to land in Kathmandu this afternoon.

The individuals were arrested in the US for violating immigration laws. For those without passports, the Nepali Embassy in Washington, D.C. provided temporary travel documents to facilitate their return.

Rising Number of Nepali Deportations From the US

Deportees come from 28 different districts of Nepal, with the highest numbers from Dang, Rukum West, and Rukum East.

Previous deportation cases include:

  • March 2025 (Falgun 21, 2081 BS): 8 Nepalis (7 men, 1 woman)

  • June 2025 (Jestha 24): 37 Nepalis (32 men, 5 women)

  • Additionally, 170 Nepalis returned via regular commercial flights after deportation.

According to the Tribhuvan International Airport Immigration Office, deportation numbers by month this year are:

  • January: 6

  • February: 18

  • March: 32

  • April: 26

  • May: 58

  • June: 42

  • July: 17

  • August: 16

Among them, 197 are men and 18 are women.

US Deportation Policy under Trump’s second term

After resuming office on January 20, 2025, President Trump expanded his administration’s crackdown on undocumented immigrants. According to U.S. authorities, a total of 1,445,549 migrants from countries including Nepal have been listed for deportation.

Most deportees are from Mexico, El Salvador, India, Guatemala, Honduras, and Venezuela, but Nepalis are also included under ICE’s enforcement operations. Deportations mainly target those who entered the U.S. after June 24, 2015, and had already received final removal orders. #nepal #USA #deportation
