Baglung, July 13: Dev Kumar Nepali, the Mayor of Dhorpatan Municipality and the Chairman of Image Savings and Credit Cooperative, was accused of fraud by about 1,543 people. They have filed a case in Baglung District Court on charges of embezzling their Rs. 1.54 billion.
The cooperative victim registered the case through the District Prosecutor’s Office. Dev Kumar Nepali fled after embezzling Rs. 1.54 billion from savers have not been contacted even after two months, and the police have not been able to arrest him yet. “We are hopeful that an arrest warrant will be issued after this case,” said one of the victims, Dil Bahadur Karki, “Our money should be returned even if it is found and sold wherever it is.”
After the disappearance of Mayor Nepali, the depositors have been protesting against Mayor Dev Kumar. They have been demanding the local administration to arrest him through Interpol by filing a case of economic crime.
Hundreds of people had saved because of the promise of attractive interest in Image Cooperative, which has branches in Galkot, Burtiwang and Pokhara along with the Baglung headquarters. The cooperative did business with many who were not share members. Due to the decision of the Board of Directors meeting, the cooperative has been closed.
