Kathmandu, May 13: The Department of Immigration has said that around 125,000 foreign nationals have been tracked through the Foreign Nationals Monitoring Information System (FNMIS), launched more than four months ago.
The details were shared during a progress review meeting on the implementation of the system held at the department on Tuesday.
According to the department, 1,543 service providers — including hotels, travel agencies, domestic airlines and organisations serving foreign nationals — have so far been linked to the system. Among them, 94 hotels have already been integrated into the platform.
Department spokesperson and director Tikaram Dhakal said records of nearly 125,000 foreign travellers have been collected through the system.
The FNMIS was initially introduced in star hotels in Kathmandu on January 1, 2026, before being expanded to all service providers dealing with foreign nationals from March 1.
In a statement, the department said the system aims to ensure the safety of foreign visitors, strengthen national security, monitor the activities of foreign citizens and help control crime. It added that the initiative is also intended to reinforce Nepal’s image as a safe tourism destination.
Representatives from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Nepal Tourism Board, Department of Tourism, the Inland Revenue Department, Hotel Association Nepal, the Federation of Hotel Entrepreneurs, the Tourist Police and other agencies participated in the review meeting.
The meeting decided to intensify monitoring by the Department of Tourism and other regulatory bodies overseeing hotels and service providers working with foreign nationals.
The department also said awareness programmes would be conducted in different parts of the country to encourage more hotels and service providers to join the system. #Nepal
