Birgunj, June 3: In the first 10 months of the current fiscal year 2081/82 (2024/250, goods worth Rs 506.67 billion were imported through the Birgunj customs point. Compared to the same period in the previous fiscal year 2080/81, imports have increased by 12.75%, amounting to Rs 57.30 billion more.
According to Birgunj Customs Office, the largest share of imports through this checkpoint comprised petroleum products, with five types of petroleum goods totaling Rs 155.94 billion. The second highest import was crude soybean oil, valued at Rs 45.79 billion.
Customs Chief Deepak Lamichhane stated that both imports and exports have seen growth this fiscal year. Within the same 10-month period, machinery and spare parts worth Rs 29.02 billion, iron and iron products worth Rs 28.51 billion and, allopathic medicines worth Rs 23.85 billion were imported.
Significant rise in exports
Exports have also seen a remarkable increase in this period. In the 10-month period, goods worth Rs 79.03 billion were exported through the Birgunj checkpoint. In contrast, only Rs 25.48 billion worth of goods were exported in the same period last year. This marks an increase of 210.16%, or Rs 53.55 billion more in exports.
The top export item was refined soybean oil, with Rs 46.53 billion worth (a total of 219.25 million liters) exported. In comparison, only 464,093 liters worth Rs 90 million were exported in the same period last year.
Similarly, refined sunflower oil worth Rs 7.27 billion (totaling 35.22 million liters) was exported this fiscal year, while only 527,291 liters worth Rs 100 million were exported in the same period last year. #nepal #import #export
