Indian Foreign Secretary pays courtesy call on President Paudel



Kathmandu, Aug 17: Foreign Secretary of India, Vikram Misri, has paid a courtesy call on President Ram Chandra Paudel today and conveyed greetings of the Indian leadership, apart from briefing President on the progress in bilateral ties.

The Indian Foreign Secretary arrived in Kathmandu this morning for a two-day official visit at the cordial invitation of Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai.

According to President’s office, on the occasion, President Paudel said that as a friend and close neighbor, Nepal has benefited from India’s progress and wishes to benefit even more.

“As an emerging international power, we are pleased and encouraged by India’s progress in the socio-economic and technological fields. As a friend and close neighbor, Nepal has benefited from India’s achievements and wishes to benefit further,” President Paudel’s press advisor Kiran Pokharel quoted him as saying during the courtesy call.

He further said that Nepal and India have enjoyed close social, cultural, religious, spiritual, economic, and people-to-people ties for centuries, and that the relationship between the two countries is based on sovereign equality, friendly cooperation, mutual respect, and trust.

“Nepal has always accorded high priority to its relations with India. We appreciate the Government of India’s ‘Neighborhood First Policy,’ which places special importance on relations with neighbors,” President Paudel said.
