Kathmandu: President Bidya Devi Bhandari visited Shri Kumari, Shri Ganesh and Shri Bhairav in Basantpur Durbar area and offered pooja there today.
The President also observed the Indra Jatra from the Basantpur Gaddi Baithak.
The Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, heads of constitutional bodies, ministers, representatives of foreign diplomatic missions in Nepal, and local people’s representatives participated in observing the Indra Jatra, which is mainly celebrated on the day of Bhadra Shukla Chaturdashi.
A large number of local residents and general public thronged the area to witness the procession. Foreign tourists were also seen observing the Jatra with curiosity.
The traditional Indra Jatra, which is celebrated by worshiping Lord Indra, the god of rain, is also celebrated in Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, Dhulikhel, Dolakha and other places of the country. This Jatra is celebrated for eight days with various types of dances, chariot processions and worship of gods and goddesses.
