Info Ministry virtually launches FTTH scheme in Mugu district

Kathmandu, May 19: In a bid to mainstream Karnali in information technology, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology launched a ‘fibre to the home’ (FTTH) scheme on Sunday.

The FTTH was launched as part of government’s priority to the IT expansion in Karnali Province with optimum utilization of available means and resources, which is believed to contribute significantly to elevation of people’s life standard.

Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Rekha Sharma, virtually unveiled the service and expressed happiness that it would now help realize the slogan of internet at every home.

She drew the attention of Nepal Telecom to not only focus business but also emphasize quality service delivery, for which the concerned sides could extend cooperation.

The scheme launched on Sunday is expected to ease the activities are government offices, community schools and local governments so that service seekers would be provided public services smoothly.

On the occasion, Minister Sharma reminded that Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) was urged to facilitate the expansion of electricity in the far-flung areas. “Unavailability of electricity is a major hindrance to service expansion. So, discussions are underway with the concerned minister and officials,” she informed.

Minister Sharma further reminded that the government had planned to observe the coming 10 years as an ICT decade as per announcement made in the policies and programmes for the coming fiscal year. Country could achieve progress only through optimum use of IT. It however needs cooperation and supports from all sides, she reiterated.

Also the spokesperson of the government, Minister Sharma viewed once the broadband internet facility was expanded in Mugu by keeping in centre the tourists visiting the Rara Lake, it would not only facilitate essential communication but also contribute to national economy.

The Minister also urged the concerned chief district officer and local organizations to extend supports to sort out problems at local level in case of construction and repair of repeater towers.
