Judicial Council recommends six judges to Supreme Court

Kathmandu, Nov 21: Today’s meeting of the Judicial Council has recommended the names of six judges for the vacant positions in the Supreme Court of Nepal.

The meeting chaired by Chief Justice Bishwambhar Prasad Shrestha recommended High Court Judges Saranga Subedi, Abdul Aziz Muslim, Mahesh Sharma Paudel and Tek Prasad Dhungana.

Similarly, Man Bahadur Karki, spokesperson of the Judicial Council, informed that senior advocates Sunil Kumar Pokharel and Balkrishna Dhakal have been recommended on behalf of legal professionals.

The newly nominated justices will be appointed later after parliamentary hearing.

The meeting also recommended the appointment of the Chief Justices in the High Courts. Lohit Chandra Shah has been recommended as Chief Justice of Surkhet High Court, Madhav Prasad Pokharel as Chief Justice of Pokhara High Court, Ramesh Prasad Bhandari as Chief Justice of Biratnagar High Court.

Likewise, Shrikant Poudel as Chief Justice of Janakpur High Court, Nityanand Pandey as Chief Justice of Tulsipur High Court and Shanti Singh Thapa as Chief Justice of Dipayal High Court have been recommended for the appointment. The judges who were recommended to the Chief Justice were currently working in the different High Court.
