The correction centre at Madhyapur Thimi Municipality-2 in Santothimi was vandalized on Sunday after a mysterious death of a 21-year-old youth Kamal Basnet, who was put behind the bar on charge of rape.
The relatives of Basnet, 21, from Manthali in Ramechhap had vandalized the correction centre after Basnet’s mysterious death was reported on Sunday morning. After Basnet’s death, the minor inmates and relatives of the deceased protested demanding a fair probe, action against the culprits and compensation to the deceased’s family.
However, the police have stated that Basnet, who fainted on Sunday, died while receiving treatment at a hospital in Bhaktapur. Meanwhile, the probe panel led by Assistant Chief District Officer Dorendra Prasad Niraula has started investigation into the case from Tuesday.
