KMC begins demolishing structures built illegally

Kathmandu: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has launched a drive to demolish structures built illegally.

The KMC itself resorted to the move after the 35-day public notice expired, said the KMC officials.

The metropolis believes this move would resolve 25 percent vehicle parking problems in the city.

Those structures built without the maps passed or violating the approved maps were pulled down, said Sunil Lamsal, member of the Secretariat of the KMC mayor Balendra Shah.

As part of the campaign, structures built at Kathmandu Mall in Sundhara and New Road-based RB Complex were brought down with the use of dozers, he said.

Mayor Shah himself was present on the occasion.

Structures built illegally at Durbar Marg would also be destroyed on Wednesday itself, he said.

Similarly, the KMC has asked the Kathmandu District Court at Babarmahal to send details of the maps approved to build structures, it has been said.

Earlier, the KMC destroyed structures built illegally in New Baneshwor.
