Kathmandu, Aug 22: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has formed a committee for the development of local curriculum.
A meeting of KMC Education Committee held on the presence of Mayor Bidhya Sundar Shakya on Wednesday formed two committees for Nepal language and Nepali and English languages.
A committee headed by KMC education officer Nirmala KC formed for developing Nepal language curriculum for grade 1 to 8. The committee comprises Prof Dr Chunda Bajracharya and Haribhakta Shrestha as members and Motiraj Khanal as the member-secretary. Nepal language will be an optional subject in the grades.
Likewise, another committee for English and Nepali language has also been formed under KC’s leadership with Prof Dr Chunda Bajracharya, Madan Raj Manandhar, Madhav Ghimire, Natikaji Maharjan and Gyan Bahadur Adhikari as members.
The committee has been mandated two months time frame to prepare the curriculum.
Education Officer KC shared the local curriculum would be prepared in a way to implement it in community and institutional schools within the KMC from next education calendar 2076.
The local curriculum would be provided free of cost to community schools and with cost to the institutional schools, education officer KC informed.
She further shared that the curriculum would encompass occupation, business, religion, art, culture, geographical locations, fine art, sculptors and tourism of Kathmandu. “The curriculum would include 60 percent content of the Kathmandu Metropolis and 40 percent of the Valley”.
Inputs would be collected from wards for the development of textbooks in line with curriculum. There are 750 schools including community and institutional in the Kathmandu metropolis.
