Koshi Province government gets vote of confidence, UML protests

Morang, Aug 21: The Chief Minister of Koshi Province Government, Uddhav Thapa, has got the vote of confidence. However, the CPN UML protested in the assembly hall after presiding MP Israeil Mansuri also cast his vote.

The UML claimed that the vote by Mansuri was against the spirit of the Constitution, and vowed to challenge in Supreme Court.

In today’s meeting of the Koshi Province Assembly, Chief Minister Thapa got 47 votes while 30 votes were cast against the motion.

Likewise, 16 Province Assembly Members remained absent at the meeting.

Chief Minister Thapa took the vote of confidence on Monday as per the Article 168 (4) of the Constitution of Nepal. The next meeting of the province assembly shall held at 3:00 pm on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, senior advocate and constitutional expert Dr Bhimarjun Acharya has said that the activities seen in Koshi Province today was a shame of constitutional provision. “It’s unethical, apolitical and unconstitutional,” he said.
