Kulekhani reservoir sluice gates open, call for high vigilance



Bagmati, Sept 28: Sluice gates of the reservoir of the Kulekhani I Hydropower project in Makwanpur’s Indrasarovar Rural Municipality have been opened after the reservoir was full with rainwater. The gates were opened this morning.

Chief District Officer of Makwanpur Tirtharaj Chiluwal shared that the sluice gates to the Indrasarovar reservoir was opened this morning after the water started flowing from above the dam walls. “It was estimated that it would take another day or two for the reservoir to become full, but it was full last night,” said CDO Chiluwal. The sluice gate of the reservoir was opened led by a team of technicians from Nepal Army, Armed Police, Nepal Police and the hydropower project.

As a result, the water flowing from the dam is likely to affect Bhimfedi Rural Municipality, Indrasarovar Rural Municipality, Bagmati Rural Municipality.

Meanwhile, the District Administration Office Makwanpur has appealed to the people living in the lower coastal areas below Kulekhani to be on high alert and directed security personnel and volunteers to be on high alert as there is a possibility of sudden flooding in the settlements along Bagmati river from Kulekhani Dam to Sisneri.
